What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme started by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk
helping readers & writers touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up.

WHAT I'M READING

WHAT I'M WRITING
THE NINTH TEAM | Genre: YA Fantasy | Status: Sent to beta readers
ASHES Genre: YA Fantasy (fairy tale retell) | Status: Outlining

WHAT INSPIRES ME
Revisiting my favorite movies and books.

WHAT ELSE
Rethinking my routine. What can I do to make time for more of the activities that are important to me (reading, writing, spending time with friends, etc.)? What poor habits get in the way of that (too much internetting, inefficient planning) and how can I change?

Also (very anxiously) growing house plants.

  1. Too much interneting is definitely a problem I share :P

Hope your beta readers get back to you soon with lots of helpful edit notes ^_^

    Have a great week!

  2. House plants! I have no luck with those. Outdoor, I do OK.

I have the Cress audiobook next up in my queue.

    1. That's how I'm reading CRESS, as an audiobook. Loving it so far!

  3. I've been rethinking my routine lately, too! It's so important to reassess. My conclusion was that I should have strict limits on the time I spend on social media. When you catch yourself just staring into facebook or something similar...yeah, bad. :(

Also, hello, Fantasy friend. :D Your current reads look a lot like mine.

  4. CRESS was so good! But then, that came as no surprise. Love that series. Your WiPs sound really good! I love YA fantasy so much and I feel like there just isn't anywhere near enough of it in the market. I hear you on the routine re-thinking. There are so many things that end up crowding out the things we need or want to do. I really need to sit down and start weeding out those unnecessary distractions as well. Have a great week!

  5. I'm currently reading CRESS, too--at last! I've been looking forward to diving in for a long time, and so far it's every bit as good as I'd hoped. As for A STORM OF SWORDS--I'm not that far in the series yet. I have A CLASH OF KINGS waiting for me--yup, book 2. What can I say? I was slow to get started! :)

It sounds like your writing is moving along--a novel out to Betas, outlining another... I'm sure we can all do with constantly re-evaluating our schedules, and making sure we're giving time to things that matter, and not wasting time on things that don't. I hope you manage to find a balance you're happy with, Athena. Have a wonderful week! :)

    1. I'm going through the series (SONG OF ICE & FIRE) at glacial speed. Writing kind of feels the same way, some times :)

  6. How's "A Storm of Swords"? I've got it on my Kindle, but haven't started it yet, years after I read "A Game of Thrones."

Best of luck with the house plants, and with changing your habits! I've started getting away from digital screens for an hour before bedtime, both to hopefully get my brain in a more restful state, and to keep myself from procrastinating and staying up late. Seems to work out pretty well so far.

    Nice to meet you!

  7. I too have issues with planning :P If you ever figure it out, let me know!
So far, the only solution I can come up with is to make every day about 2 hours longer, somehow.

    1. I'm working harder on having Plan Bs, so that when those Plan As fall through (as they inevitably do) I'm still able to salvage progress.

  8. I love revisiting old books and movies. I recently rewatched A Little Princess and cried like a baby, definitely inspiring!
