Pitch Wars is a contest where published/agented authors, editors, or industry interns choose one writer each, read their entire manuscript, and offer suggestions to shine it up for agents. The mentors also critique the writer’s pitch to get it ready for the agent round. Mentors also pick one alternate each in case their writer drops out of the contest. Writers send applications (query and first chapter of manuscript) to the four mentors that best fit their work. The mentors then read all their applications and choose the writer they want to mentor for the next two months. Then we hold an agent round with over a dozen agents making requests.I'm looking forward to participating this year. I've been working my way through the list of amazing mentors and narrowing down my picks.
Also prepping for hurricanes as I write this! Adrenaline!
For any mentors/fellow mentees stalking my way, thanks for stopping by. Let's have an awkward handshake-hug-back-pat moment!
My writing obsession began as a kid, when I penned Dragonlance/Sailor Moon/vampire mash-up fan fictions and forced my friends to read them and compliment my genius. More recently, I've placed twice in the Writer's Digest Competition with a 5th in Children's/YA and an Honorable Mention in Horror. I'm an active member of SCBWI and a former student editor for my college's literary magazine.
I write YA fantasy. My love for all things fantasy runs truly madly deep. I've also done other spec fic, including horror and sci-fi. I lean towards action-filled plots with fast-pacing and mystery and romantic subplots.
I'm detail oriented. I'm an extreme outliner who works well with deadlines and clear goals. I keep track of my ideas and strive to always be working on a project. I'm competitive and dedicated, pursuing things with hard focus.
I'm a complete nerd/geek (read: Ravenclaw and Erudite) who loves gaming and binge reading. My ideal date is a visit to the bookstore followed by some thrift shopping and lunch at a local restaurant. I rarely wear heels because if the zombie apocalypse happens, I want to be able to run. Personality wise, I'm positive and upbeat. I like making connections and when I make a true friend, it's for life.
For a mentor, I want someone willing to troubleshoot problems with me, someone open to being asked a lot of questions. I'd also love someone with a sense of fun!
Be sure to check out the other wannabe-mentee bios!
